Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Burton, the venerable relict of the late John O. Burton, died at her home near Mattoon, Sunday, Sept 13th, 1908, in her seventy-second year.
She was a daughter of Phillip Thurmond, at one time probably the largest landowner in the county as well as one of the richest men here about. She was born Sept. 8th, 1837, and was married Oct. 22, 1857. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a Christian woman for many years.
She leaves several children, among them being, John, Frank and James Burton.
