Bernice was born on Jan. 1, 1915 in Sodus, MI to Ray E. and Jenny (Renstrew) Phillips. She married Robert E. Ballance on June 21, 1931, he preceded her in death on December 24, 1994. They owned and operated Ballance's Harley-Davidson Sales and Service until 1993 when they retired. Bernice is survived by daughters, Shirley Ann (Ernest) Schroder, of Marshall, Roberta Rae (Walter) McWhirter, of Barryton, MI; and Gale Lee (Neil) Jenkins, of Damacus OR; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, a sister, Donna Case, and a brother, Vernon Phillips, both of FL. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Bernice enjoyed traveling, music, flowers, and riding Harley's. Family will receive friends from 6p.m. to 8p.m. Friday May 21, 2010 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 1p.m. Saturday with Rev. Thomas J. Ott of the First Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow at Newbre Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to First Congregational Church.
