Aaron W. Kirklin, son of Snowden Kirkland, grandson of Aaron Kirkland, great-grandson of Richard Kirkland, Jr.

Aaron Warner Kirklin lived in Alabama until he was in his early twenties. On July 10, 1873, he married Mary Jane Hanks in Bossier Parish. He would live in the area of Mt. Vernon in Bossier parish, Louisiana the rest of his life. He and Mary Jane had the following children:
*Emma Lucretia Kirklin
*James Robert Kirklin
*Daniel Aaron Kirklin
*Sarah Jane Kirklin Oglesby
*Minnie Susannah Kirklin Sears
*William Everett Kirklin
*Jasper Bunyon Kirklin

Aaron Kirklin was a half brother to Daniel Bass. Daniel's mother Mahala Bass married a second time to Snowden Kirkland. In 1860 Barbour Co. AL., 11 year old Aaron "Kirkland" is living with Daniel in his household.

There has been some confusion about the spelling of the name. As noted, on the 1860 Barbour county census, Aaron spells it the same way his father, Snowden did. "Kirkland". (Snowden "Kirkland" can be found in 1850 Barbour county, AL census, married to "Mahaley" with the Kirkland children born up to that time and Daniel Bass present in the household.)

However, in the 1900 LA, Bossier parish Louisiana census, the spelling of Aaron's name has been changed to "Kirklin". To make matters more confusing, his son Everett as an adult is seen with his spelled Kirkland, daughter Sarah Jane spelled Kirklin, daughter Minnie spelled it Kirkland and son Jasper spelled Kirklin. The reasons Aaron's name spelling changed from that of his father and how he is seen with it spelled in 1860 in Alabama to the change in 1900 Louisiana are not definitely known. But it could be 'theorized' that the spelling, "Kirklin" is a phonic spelling derived from the way Kirkland would sound being pronounced quickly with most emphasis put on the first syllable, 'Kirk' and less emphasis on the last syllable,'land', thereby resulting in the sound of 'KURK-lin'.
