Mary Red, who went by her middle name of Lucille, passed away on a Thursday at Sutter Oaks Midtown convalescent facility in Sacramento. She was 98 years old.

Born in Durant, Oklahoma, Lucille moved to Sonora in 1937. She married Rosco "Pete" Red, who passed away in 1942.

She was a homemaker and devoted mother of Della, Jim, Jack, Evelyn and Dixie. Della and Jim were her survivors as well as 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

While raising her family in Columbia, Lucille joined the Columbia School PTA and held an honorary life membership with that organization. She was president of Tuolumne County Council of Girl Scouts and served as adviser for 11 years to the Thetarho, a junior Rebekah organization.

Lucille organized the first Cub Scout and Brownie troops in Columbia and organized the "Busy Bee" club for girls too young to join Girl Scouts. She was an organizer of the Columbia Youth Organizations, for which she served as advisory board chairman for four years.

Lucille was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Sonora.

She moved to Stockton in 1989.

The Tuolumne Star Chapter OES conducted the funeral services at the chapel.
