Mrs. Hazel Dovey Dyes Brown, age 91 of Crockett, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Mrs. Brown was born June 9, 1918 in Melrose, Texas. Her parents were Clarence and Lorena Wilkinson Dyes. She had five sisters and two brothers. She went to primary school in Melrose and graduated from Nacogdoches High school in 1936. She moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to work. Later, she moved to Houston, Texas to work for South Western Bell Telephone Company. While in Houston, she met Granville Edward Brown. They were married on October 2, 1948. They had two sons. They moved to Crosby, Texas in 1964. They moved to Crockett in 1981, when Edward retired from South Western Bell Telephone Co. in Houston. They lived on a farm on Hwy. 7 West until Edward's health failed. They moved into town in the Rolling Hills Addition in 1996. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before Edward passed away in 2001. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Crockett. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center to eat and visit with friends. She enjoyed her dog, Sam going to church, singing songs, birds and flowers. She enjoyed being with her family. She was a special lady who will be missed greatly.

Survivors include her son Mark Brown and wife Nancy, of Crockett; three grandsons David Brown and wife Cristy, of Lancaster, Aaron Brown and wife Amie, of Nederland, Adam Brown and fiancé Darla, of Newton; one sister Oudie Faye Stanford, of Houston; many nieces and nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband Granville Edward Brown; son David Anthony Brown; parents Clarence and Lorena Dyes; two brothers Stub and Oscar Dyes; four sisters Ethel Davis, Arlene Long, Zeffie Loveless and Audie Mae Dyes. Funeral Services for Mrs. Hazel Dovey Dyes Brown were held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Keeney Dickenson officiating.
