William Bosley served in the War of 1812 as a private in Capt. Henry Thompson's First Baltimore Horse Artillery (aka Capt. Thompson's Co of Cavalry. MD Militia) that saw action in 1814 as a cavalry messenger/observation unit at the Battles of Bladensburg and Baltimore in addition to being the personal guard of Maj. Gen. Samuel Smith,
commander of the 3rd Division.
William was s/o Walter Bosley and Mary Trapnall of Baltimore Co and m. Elizabeth Stansbury (d/o William and Mary (Welsh Stansbury) on 20 May 1801 at Zion German Luthern Church, Manchester, MD. William and Elizabeth had issue: William Stanbury b. 25 May 1802, Walter b. 1803,
Mary Jan b. 1804, Eliza M b. 1805, John A b. 1808, Mary Jane b. 28 Jun 1809, Ellenore "Ellen" b. 28 May 1813, James Henry b. 1816, Walter T b. 21 Jun 1818, Charles Joshua b. 1823, Clarissa b. 1824, and Emily Elizabeth b. 1826. William was part owner along with his brother James in 3 privateer schooners out of Baltimore: "Joseph & Mary", "Ned", and "Tartar".
