Ruth Marie Brakefield of Potosi was born August 31, 1921 in Bonne Terre, Missouri, a daughter of the late Frank and Fannie Elizabeth (Gilliam) Beers. She departed this life Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home, having reached the age of eighty-eight years, six months and fifteen days.

Ruth was united in marriage to Clyde Cecil Brakefield on December 2, 1939 in Potosi.

Ruth is survived by four daughters, Shirley Jean Volner of Herculaneum, MO; Judy Ann Green and husband Edgar of Desloge, MO; Betty Arlyn Briley and husband Jim of Wortham, MO; and Cindy Marie Kean and Steve Robinson of Potosi, MO; three sons, Cecil L. Brakefield and wife, Sue of Potosi, Noel F. Brakefield and wife Glenda of Potosi, and Raymond E. Brakefield of Belgrade; two sisters, Naomi Hastings of Park Hills, MO and Deloris Brannam and husband Gene, of Festus, MO; twenty grandchildren including Brandon Kean, Brian Kean and Billy Joe Kean raised in the family home and several great-grandchildren; her faithful companion, "My Polly".

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Brakefield; two sisters, an infant and Hazel Syrett; one brother, Leamon Eddie Beers and one great-grandchild, Andrew Volner.

Ruth enjoyed cooking for her family and many friends. She also enjoyed working in her garden, canning vegetables and raising chickens. Ruth loved her family and the time they spent together, especially with her grandchildren. Ruth was a kind woman who will be greatly missed by the many lives she has touched.

Visitation was held Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob Thurman officiating, assisted by Pastor Stephen Pool. Honoring Ruth by serving as pallbearers were: Jeff Green, Steve Green, Keith Brakefield, Randy Brakefield, B.J. Kean and Brett Vance and honorary pallbearers were; Anthony Brakefield, Brandon Kean and Brian Kean. Final prayers and burial took place in the Palmer Cemetery, Belgrade, Missouri.

Services were entrusted to the care and direction of Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, MO.
