Elton W. Abenath, Sr., 68, of Huntington, died at 6:02 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Crown Point on Oct. 5, 1936 to Theodore E. and Blanche Jones Abenath, he married Betty A. Gavin in Wells County on Jan. 24, 1958; she survives.
A U.S. Army veteran, he was a truck driver and construction worker. He was a member of the Warren Church of Christ.
Other survivors include two sons, Elton, Jr. of Huntington and Mike Abenath of Winamac; four daughters, Pam Town of Jackson, Mich., Mary Abenath of Neosho, Mo., Elizabeth Richards of Fort Wayne, and Barbara Darbig of Huntington; a brother, Jack Abenath of Liberty Center; three sisters, Beverly Schriever of Clear Lake, Rosalie Myers of Decatur, and Cindea Frantz of Liberty Center; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Calling hours are Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday there, officiated by Gerald Moreland. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton.
