Gladys M. (Glen) Ackerman, 73, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

Gladys was born October 1, 1936, to Edward and Evelyn (Mayer) Glen in Butte, Montana.

She attended grade school and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1955. After high school, she went to Beauty School in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and became a Cosmetician in 1956. In 1957 she moved to Grangeville and went to work at the Nick Smith Beauty Shop. Also that year she married Richard A. Ackerman and they raised 6 children.

Over the years Gladys spent her life sharing her baked goods with people. Her generosity was unending. She was well known for her cookies, baking bread, canning fruits and veggies, and making wedding cakes. She was a wonderful cook!! One of her many hobbies was sewing (she taught 4-H Sewing for 10 years) and later loved making quilts. She also sold Avon for 12 years; and was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Alter Society for 30 years.

In 1992, she returned to school and received a degree in Computer Science from Lewis-Clark State College in 1997. She was employed by Andrews Hallmark Card Store in Lewiston for 12 years. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gladys is survived by her children, Kimberly Reaney of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, Lucile Lamb of Grangeville, James Ackerman of Sandpoint, Idaho, Mary Ellen Tillemans of Big Pine, California, Bridget Collar of Lewiston, and Scott Ackerman of Grangeville; 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Kay Christensen; half sister, Janet (Glen) Wilson; half brothers, Steve and David Glen, and Mike and Steve Socwell.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Darrel and Charles Glen; and a sister, Judy (Glen) Burksby.

A rosary will be recited on Monday, May 24, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Grangeville. A Memorial Mass will take place Tuesday, May 25, at 10:00 a.m., also at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Building Fund.

Services are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.
