Viet Nam War veteran

Al was married to my first cousin on 1/6/1967. They had an amazing strong and loving bond. They were together from the first time they met, and were sweethearts all through school and all through life. It was a true love story.

Al was a victim of Agent Orange while in Viet Nam, and he suffered from the effects of that.
He was a great guy, who left us much too soon. He will be terribly missed by his family and friends in both Illinois and Kentucky.

Alfred Lee Wells of Benton, Kentucky passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and three sons at 10:00 PM Tuesday, February 22, 2011.

Born May 10, 1946 in Bloomington, Illinois, Al graduated from Saunemin High School in Illinois in 1964, where he was a standout athlete. He entered the United States Marine Corps the same year. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1969.

Al loved boating with his family on Kentucky Lake. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1084 in Benton and American Legion Post 31 in Paducah. He also had served as commander of the Saunemin American Legion Post 531 before he and his wife retired to Kentucky.

Al was active in many community activities and sports, and was a Methodist. Al was a Department of Corrections officer in Dwight, Illinois before he retired due to illness.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Harry L. Wells and Dorene J. Johnson Wells.

Semper Fi Al!
