Funeral Notice from: Anderson, IN: Anderson Daily Bulletin, Saturday, November 21, 1925, p. 1. Note there was some incorrect information in the article that I've omitted from this site.

John H. Stottlemyer was probably born in Frederick County Maryland. His parents were Hiram and Elizabeth Ambrose Stottlemyer. They are most likely buried in unmarked graves at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Church Hill, Frederick County, Maryland where Elizabeth's parents are buried.

John probably came to Madison County, Indiana about 1864, the same time as his older brother Hiram. John and Hiram most likely came with a large migration of German Baptists (also known as Old Order Brethren or Dunkards) to Green Township and became the early settlers of the area. The Civil War had many battles near the area where they grew up in Frederick County. John married Magdalena Michael in June 1867. The Michael's had come to Green Township from Frederick County, Maryland in the 1850's.

John's second wife was Elizabeth Aleshire Collins Stottlemyer. Her obituary says that she is buried at Beech Grove, but no stone has been found for her. Their only child together, Rachael Stottlemyer Ginder, is also buried at Beech Grove.

John's two younger brothers, Aaron and James, came to Madison County a few years after Hiram and John. All of the Stottlemyer descendants in the Madison, Hamilton, and Hancock counties come from one of these four brothers. A sister Rebecca also came to Indiana. She married Milum Oberdurf and is buried in the Caudell-Simmons Cemetery in Fortville.
