In the late morning of Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, with her loving daughters by her side, Edith Lavaun Cobos passed gently and peacefully away from her earthly world to her spiritual home with God our father. Her passing signaled the end of the final chapter of her rewarding and well-lived life of 88 1/2 years.

Lavaun was born in Wilmington, N.C., on Aug. 22, 1919, to Walter and Mary Tompkins. She was the fifth of eight siblings, who have all preceded her in passing. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Manuel Prieto Cobos.

Her life was blessed with a wonderful family.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Paula Nobbs and Sandra Albillar; son-in-law David Albillar of Ventura; five grandchildren and their spouses, Sonnia and Dale Flores, Julius and Kathy Bennett, Jerry and Michelle Howery, Ed and Jennifer Howrey and Jason and Jessica Howery; grandchildren, Riston Francis, Lee Speers, Erica Bennett, Chantz Flores, Tyler Flores, Aaron Bennett, Jayson Howery, Zackery Howery, Rachel Howery, Jordan Howery, Jerrett Howery, Jake Howery and Joshua Howery; and many special friends and extended church family.
