Please note: According to family Bible records and also his Indiana death certificate, Chesley Reynolds Cassel's birth year was 1877, not 1879. The stone appears to have been carved with the incorrect date.

C.R. Cassel was born in Boswell, IN, to Jefferson Montgomery and Anna E. Reynolds Cassel. C.R. spent his early life on the family farm in Benton Co, until his family re-located to Indianapolis in about 1885.

In 1904, C. R. married Cecil D. Beam in Indianapolis, and the marriage ended in divorce in 1911.

In January 1912 C.R. married Flora Jane Gipson of Hendricks Co, IN. They had one daughter, Ruth Reynolds Cassel, born in November 1912.

As a young man, he enjoyed playing the piano, and worked very briefly as a musician, in about 1901-1902.

In about 1906, C.R. began working as a brakeman, a job he held for the Pennsylvania Rail Road all of his life. He worked on the "Spirit of St. Louis," on its run from Indianapolis to St. Louis, MO, until he retired in 1943. C. R. was a fifty- year member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen
