DR George S. Carnett, 83, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010 in Washington, D.C.

Born in 1927, George grew up in Akron, Ohio. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Germany. After earning his Bachelor's degree from the University of Akron in 1950, and his Master's degree from Syracuse University in 1951, he earned a second Master's degree and a Ph.D. in International Affairs from Yale University in 1955. In the late 1950's, George settled permanently in Washington, D.C. and pursued a career with the State Department. Although extremely dedicated to his career, he was involved in several organizations and possessed a passion for education, literature, art, and horticulture. He was also a proud member of the University Club of Washington, D.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Ann Krneta; sisters, Helen Krneta, and Mildred Somody. He is survived by niece, Patty (Don) Learn of Tallmadge; great niece, Erica (Ryan) Cook of Tallmadge; and many friends in the Akron area as well as in Washington, D.C.
