A major of the 2nd Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers in the Mexican War, Price was buried in the State Mound in July, 1848. A native of Frankfort, he had returned to the city after his Mexican War service, only to die shortly after his homecoming. Local Mexican War veterans requested that he be buried in the State Mound.
