Daughter of James & Jamima Holgate died in her 13th yr. "Early Vital Records of Mass. (Haverhill Deaths)"

From Paul Noyes: She was one of five Dr. James & Jemima (Davis) Holgate children lost to the "throat distemper" [most likely diphtheria] that ravaged Haverhill during the years 1735-37. 256 children from that town died from this disease. It must have been especially heartbreaking for a physician such as Dr. Holgate to be helpless in the face of this epidemic. One of the noticeable characteristics of the epidemic in the various towns was the frequent occurrence of many deaths in the families of physicians and clergy as they probably carried the disease from their patients to their own families.
