He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late F. R. and Inga Cathey Earley. He was the husband of the late Nellie Chapman Earley who died in 1997 and was also preceded in death by a sister, Genelee Francis and a brother, Reverend Frank Earley. He was retired from Champion International in 1984 with 37 years service and was a member of Mountain View Church of God. He served in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by two daughters; Linda Towe and her husband Jerry of Canton, Inga Neal Carter and her husband Marshall of Moulton, AL, one son; Wiley Earley, Jr., and his wife Rhonda of Canton, one sister; Mary Earley Liford of Canton, one brother; Billy Earley of Canton, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2002 at the Mountain View Church of God with Reverend Herman Toney officiating. Burial will follow in the Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road with military graveside rites being performed by the VFW Post 5202 and the American Legion #47. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2002 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times the family will be at 63 N. Main Street, Canton, NC 28716.
