Robert Wayne Barber, Sr., 65, of North Vernon, Indiana passed into the loving arms of Jesus at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2010. Bob was at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on January 27, 1945, the son of Norval L. Barber and Roberta Breeck Ingram. He married his childhood sweetheart, Marilee Hazelwood, on June 26, 1965, at the Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon, Indiana. She survives.

Bob had been a Nationally recognized Realtor in Jennings County for 42 years; he currently worked for Re-Max Quality, Tom Lawson and Associates and was a member of the Muscatatuck Board of Realtors. Bob was a former member of Kiwanis. A pillar in the Vernon Baptist Church, Bob had served as a Sunday School teacher, on several men's ministries, and currently served as Chairman of Deacons. Bob was an announcer for Enter His Courts Youth Basketball League and a member of Promise Keepers. Bob loved sports; he formerly coached for many youth ball teams, and he was a fan of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, Indianapolis Colts, and Jennings County High School. Bob's favorite pastimes were attending his grandchildren's school and sports activities and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marilee; son Robert W. Barber, Jr. and his wife, Nichole, of Fishers, Indiana; daughter, April L. Rider-Helm and her husband, Lex Helm, of Nashville, Tennessee; father-in-law, Ollie Hazelwood of North Vernon, Indiana; brother, William Arthur and his wife, Jean, of North Vernon, Indiana; six grandchildren, Mary Jo Barber and Robert Alexander (Alec) Barber of Fishers, Indiana; Torrey A. Swan and her husband, David, of Nashville, Tennessee, Tyler P. Rider of Los Angeles, California; and Alexis and Luke Wayne Helm of Nashville, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Charles Ingram.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at the Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon, Indiana with the Reverend Don Morris, Dr. Bob Ash, Reverend Lewis Wright and Dr. Ray Schooler officiating. Friends may call at the Vernon Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana.
