Son of Charles H. Brinkley & Mary Ann Fletcher Davis Brinkley. Brother of Charles Albert Brinkley and Sarah C. Brinkley. Born in Missouri. After the Civil War, family left in a wagon to Arkansas. After his father's death, his mother took the children to Cooke Co., TX where they are listed in the 1880 Census living in a boarding house in Gainesville. Married Luiza "Lula" Jane Calhoun 18 Nov 1894 in TX.

Dan S. Brinkley, 62, died at his home, three miles southeast of Denison. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Nelson Grove Cemetery, nine miles west of Whitesboro. (*Cooke Co) He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula Brinkley, and five children- Dan O. Brinkley, Sherman; Charles A. Brinkley; Edwin Brinkley, Misses Naoma Brinkley and Rachel Brinkley, Denison; Mrs. Sam Fogarty, Sherman.
