Henry was the first of four children born to Felix Loyd Courreges and Evelyn Steele Kay.

Pat enlisted in the US Army on 27 April 1939. He trained at Bruce Field in Ballinger, Texas, and was a member of the Primary Pilot Class of 43-A. He rose to the rank of Master Sergeant and served his country during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
