"Charlie" was born Carl August Muller in Altenburg in the Duchy of Sachsen-Altenburg. He stowed away on a ship going to America, at age 18, hiding on the ship for two days before they found him. He was the son of August and Friedericke Lange Muller.
He was married to Pauline Friederike Henkel on 12 Jul 1868 by his Lutheran Minister brother Gustav A. Mueller.
In the 1880's he was the Constable in Gordonville. He died of pneumonia three months after his wife died of pneumonia. Eight children survived and the youngest were placed in various homes in the Gordonville community.

Obituary:
A short notice in the Jackson MO German Language newspaper from 18 March 1896 translates roughly to:
Carl Muller, who was living south of Gordonville, and we wrote about his bad sickness last week, passed away last Wednesday night. Mr. Muller was a well-liked hard-working man, who last autumn lost his strength when his wife passed away. A bunch of children became fatherless through his death.
