On November 6, 1965, in Harrison, Arkansas, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Chilton, who survives of the home.
John was a graduate of Southwest Baptist University. He served as Director for the Division of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities in Jefferson City until his retirement in 2000.
He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
John was a member of the Westlake Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by one son, Shannon Solomon of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Holly Hime and husband Derek of Ozark, Missouri; five grandchildren, Logan Solomon of California, Missouri, and Gracie Hime, John Cooper Hime, Neeley Hime, and Tessa Hime all of Ozark, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Central Missouri Honor Flight Program, c/o KMOU-TV, 5550 Highway 63 South, Columbia, Missouri, 65201, [email protected].
