Mabel E. "Edie" Cottrill Maxwell, 88, formerly of Wilbur, W.Va., passed away Monday, May 24, 2010, at her home in Middlebourne, W.Va.
She was born May 12, 1922, in Wilbur, a daughter of the late Luther C. Keys and Addie (Ferguson) Keys.
Edie was a Methodist and a member of the Fairview Church at Wilbur. She played a very active role during her many years of attendance and was very instrumental in keeping the doors open during the "lean" years.
Her career outside the home began at Kroger's, then Westinghouse Electric in Fairmont and ended at Valley View Dairyette in Deep Valley.
Surviving is her husband, Charles "Ed" Maxwell; a daughter, a granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Kenneth Cottrill in 1970; and three sisters, Letha Belle Keys, Marie Mercer and Meriam Stoneking.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with Pastor Jay Stoneking and the Rev. Earl Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow at the Wilbur Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. and until service time Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Church, HC 69 Box 50 West Union, WV 26456.
Edie's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to her many devoted and loving caregivers who assisted her through a very long journey with Alzheimer's. Also, a special thank you to her faithful hairdresser who made her look so pretty each week. We will never forget our valued support system - you are loved.
