Elizabeth "Betty" Thompson was the daughter of Rufus Saxton and Mabel Claire (Higgins) Thompson. She went to first grade in New Orleans, LA. at the Urseline Convent. She moved around with her parents for the early years of her life, eventually settling around the area of Newport News and Hampton, Virginia.

She married William Streit "Bill" Dickinson Jr., son of William Streit Sr. and Maria Christine (Duval) Dickinson in June 1941.

Two daughters were born of this union. The first, Elizabeth Anne, died shortly after birth in May 1941. A second daughter, Sharon Jean "Sherry," was born 3 Feb. 1946 and lives in Ca.

During WWII, Betty worked at the Underwater Sound Laboratory in New London, CT. She said she worked on the Sonar Buoy. She also worked for Mr. Horace E. Dodge Jr. (his father was the Dodge Automobile manufacturer) as his private secretary. He once phoned her from Europe during the early 1860's and read Life Magazine to her cover to cover. She also visited him once during the same period at his home in Gross Pointe, Michigan. They remained friends until his death in 1963.

Betty and Bill lived first after marrying in Newport News, Virginia, then Norfolk, Virginia and moved to Contra Costa County, California in the summer of 1951. There, they first resided in Walnut Creek and moved within a couple of years to 598 Darlene Drive, Concord, Ca.

The couple divorced in 1959. Betty never remarried. She moved around in the 1960's finally settling in Davis, Ca. around 1965. She remained there until 1997 when she entered a Convalescent Hospital in Woodland, Yolo County, Ca. Two years later she was moved to another convalescent hospital in Granada Hills, Los Angeles County, Ca. She died at Providence Holy Cross Memorial Hospital in Mission Hills, Ca. of congestive heart failure.
