In 1917 Mr. Massie had organized the State Bee-Keepers association and served as its president until 1927. His obituary stated that he had "printed and distributed an analytical digest on the subject of bee behavior, practical beekeeping and beehive construction that has become a manual for beekeepers."
Earlier in 1931 he was named a member of the Mercer County board of equalization and review. He served two terms as member of the House of Delegates.
Mr. Massie was a member of the Athens Masonic Lodge for 58 years, having joined when he was 21 years old.
Mr. Massie was survived by his widow and daughters Mrs. C.M. Glover, Mrs. McKinley Reid, Mrs. K. O. Green and Mrs. J.K. Anderson, son T.W. Massie, foster son W.L. White and a brother, P.W. Massie.
His funeral was conducted by the Rev. A.B. Moore at the Methodist church in Athens. Interment was in Athens cemetery.
