HEART ATTACK FATAL TO MCBETH

J. L. McBeth, 49, of Plain Dealing died Wednesday, July 3, of a heart attack in a doctor's office at Benton.

Mr. McBeth, an employee of the Bossier Parish road department for the past 12 years, had lived in Plain Dealing for 30 years.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 5th, at New bethel Baptist Church in Rocky Mount with the Rev. C. W. Hoy officiating. Burial was in the Rocky Mount Presbyterian Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary of Springhill.

He is survived by his widow; two sons, Mike and David McBeth of Plain Dealing; a daughter, Kathy, also of Plain Dealing.

J. L. McBeth was the son of James A. McBeth (or James Emanual McBeth as he listed himself on a 1918 WWI Draft registraion in McKamie, Lafayette, Arkansas with nearest relative listed as Rosie Lee McBeth) & Rosa Lee Miles (They are buried at New Bethel Cemetery, Rocky Mount, LA). James McBeth was the son of W.A. & Dicey (Grimes) McBeth (see 1900 US census, Mississippi, W. A. & Dishae McBeth)

J. L. McBeth was a welder and farmer by trade. He worked for the parish road deprtment and would make trips around the state and region to places such as New Orleans to weld in the the Shipyards.

He married Myrtis Alberta Bounds, also of Rocky Mount, daughter of George Albert Bounds & Sirena Mae Wilcox. They lived in a house previously owned by her grandfather Ernest Clinton Wilcox that was built on land settled by her grandfather, Stephen Henry Bounds. After J. L. died, Myrtis went back to work full time and was helped in raising her 3 children by her mother, Sirena Mae Bounds.
