SLYLVESTER R. KROFTA

Sylvester R. Krofta, 86, of 305 S. Clark Street, Mayville, died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mayville.

He was born on July 6, 1917, in the Town of Gibson, Wis., to Rudolph and Mary (Kraus) Krofta.

On April 14, 1945, he married Joan Hesprich at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Lomira.

Mr. Krofta was a graduate of Mishicot High School and attended the UW-Madison Farm Short Course. Sylvester farmed and worked at John Deere Company in Horicon until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1980. During his retirement years, he enjoyed rides through the Kettle Moraine area, Old World Wisconsin and the Amish Community in the Dalton-Kingston area. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville.

He is survived by his special friend, Lucia Grams of Mayville, six sons, Jerome (Susan) Krofta of Wisconsin Rapids, Kenneth L. (Theresa) Krofta of Milwaukee, Daniel (Denice) Krofta of Tomah, Gregory Krofta (special friend-Cheri Schulz) of Delafield, Martin Krofta of Wanatchee, Wash., and Paul Krofta of Fond du Lac; five daughters, Theresa (Peter) Uerling of Arpin, Wis., Jane Weinert of West Bend, Diane Schibline of West Bend, Emily (Ron) Rueter of Jackson and Sharon Krofta (special friend, Mike) of Eden; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; five brothers, Norbert Krofta of Manitowoc, Rudy (Florence) Krofta of Middleton, Raymond Krofta of Sturgeon Bay, David Krofta and James Krofta both of Mishicot; five sisters, Leona (Frank) Buresh, Joyce Bavry and Joan Krofta, all of Manitowoc, Audrey (Roy) Harvey of Ogdensburg, Wis., and Arlene Muehlenberg of Markesan; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1982; one son, Eugene; two sisters, Anna Frechette and Mary Ellen Schultz.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mayville. The Rev. Charles Wester will officiate. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Mayville.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., the hour of the funeral service, on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mayville.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic School in Mayville.
