Mr. Eastabrooks was taken to the hospital Saturday morning and placed under an oxygen tent but was unable to make a recovery. He is survived by his widow and three children, Wendell, Jean and Myra Mae. His mother, Mrs. Agnes Eastabrooks and three brothers and three sisters also survive. It was indeed a severe shock to Litchfield and community when the word was passed around last Monday morning that Horace Eastabrooks had passed away at an early hour that morning at the Loup City hospital.
About a week prior to his death, Mr. Eastabrooks contracted the "flu" and about the middle of the week Dr. Rydberg was called. The following Saturday it was deemed advisable that he be taken to the hospital where he could be placed under an oxygen tent and that afternoon he was taken to Loup City.
At first he responded nicely to the treatment and little doubt was felt but that he would recover. However, it was not to be, and the cause of his demise is attributed to a weak heart.
The obituary follows:
Horace John Eastabrooks was born March 23, 1888 at Carlton, Thayer Co., Nebr. and passed away Febr. 6, 1939 at the Loup City hospital at the age of 50 years, 10 months, and 17 days. When he was 15 years of age he moved with his parents to Litchfield where he has since resided.
He was married to Mabel Alkire Oct. 1, 1919. To this union were born three children.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife, Mabel; his three children, Wendel Duane, Jean Yvonne and Myra Mae; his mother, Mrs. Agnes Eastabrooks; two sisters, Mrs. Hope Sheehan and Mrs. Shirley Diefenbaugh; three brothers, Ray, Mahlon and Vernon Eastabrooks all of Litchfield and a host of other relatives and friends. His father, Frank Eastabrooks, preceded him in death four years.
He was a member of the Litchfield Odd Fellow lodge, No. 190, of which he was a past Noble Grand.
Mr. Eastabrooks was a good man, a kind loving husband and father, a friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed in his home and community.
Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Litchfield, conducted by Rev. Price of Schuyler, Nebr., assisted by Rev. Lois Payne. The music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mesdames Doris Brundige and Mildred Harbert and Messers. Paul Chipps and Chas. Wolford, with Miss Dorothy Davis at the piano.
Interment was in the Litchfield cemetery
