Nov. 16, 1886 Tuesday Sullivan Democrat -
Obituary. - Mrs. Lafayette Stewart died after a lingering illness, last Thursday evening, and was buried on Saturday. She was born in 1828, and was consequently 58 years of age. She has lived in Sullivan ever since her marriage, except possibly a year or two spent in Sullivan, Illinois, about 1853 or ‘54. Mrs. Stewart professed her faith in Christianity at an early age, and connected herself with the Presbyterian church when it was first organized in Sullivan, and her teaching and example brought her husband and children into the church. She was an excellent woman, strong in her convictions of duty; a good neighbor and given to hospitality, energetic in the discharge of her domestic duties, a loving and devoted mother. She leaves a large number of relatives and numerous friends to mourn her death.
