Ethal married Frederic Joseph Ottley on November 12, 1902. Together they had eight chidren. Their daughter, Florence, got married on their 25th wedding anniversary, and their granddaughter Bonnie got married on their 44th wedding anniversary.
When her sister, May, died in 1920, Ethal helped care for and raise her children for a time.
Ethal is remembered by family as a very short woman, about a foot or so shorter than her husband. Her red hair, when let down, reached her ankles. Normally, though, she kept it up in a bun on her head.
Ethal died just five months after her husband.
