George E. Van Horn, 79, of 505 Queen Ann Ave., was dead on arrival Monday at 6:15 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital.
The son of Reed H. and Mary Cordelia Goff Van Horn, he was born Aug. 27, 1895, at Bedford. He had been a resident of Ottumwa since 1921.
He was an employee of John Deere Co., retiring Aug. 26, 1960. He served in World War I with the Army. He was a member of the John Deere Retirees Club.
His marriage to Reva Ellis was April 11, 1936, and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Dale Van Horn, two stepsons, Harvey and George V. Marshall, both of Ottumwa; five step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Reece Funeral Home.
