Gerald Howard Taylor was born in St. Mary's, Ohio, to Murray Wilson Taylor and Martha Eloise Campbell Taylor. He had two older brothers, Paul Leslie Taylor, and Delmar Wallace Taylor; he had one older sister, Lillian Bueno Taylor, and a younger sister, Cleta Eloise Taylor. Younger brother Murray Maxwell Taylor died of dipthyria at age 7.

Gerald married Olive May Hiles in 1930; son Jack Gerald Taylor was born July 11, 1930. Gerald divorced Olive in 1934, received sole custody of his son, and married Marie Katherine Ramge in 1935. They were married over 40 years.

Jerry "Bud" Taylor had a long career in Food Management with the State of Ohio, as Supervisor of Food Operations at Ohio State Hospital in Dayton. He worked for Wright Patterson Air Base in a Security position, served in the Naval Reserves, was employed by Howard Johnson's Restaurants, fine hotels in Columbus, and opened Columbus' original new River View Bowling Lanes.

Gerald spent his final months in a nursing home. His beloved wife Marie passed away in February, 1978 - Jerry followed her in September the same year.
