D. W. CARVER KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT NEAR WAUCHULA
Formerly a Resident of Lake Butler- Was Walking Along Highway
Wauchula, April 5- As a result of an automobile accident on the Dixie highway near here Thursday evening, D. W. Carver is dead and Tom and Dan Brown and Sam Hines are under $1,000 bond each. The accident occurred when Mr. and Mrs. Carver, out for a walk reached the highway and started to cross it, when a car driven at high rate of speed appeared. The driver, Tom Brown, blew his horn and it is supposed that in veering to one side to prevent striking Mrs. Carver, who had succeeded in crossing, struck Mr. Carver, who had stooped at the side of the road to remove a sandspur which had penetrated his shoe.
After going some distance the car returned, and rushed Carver to the home of Mrs. Thomas near, then bringing physicians to the bedside. Despite the skill of four physicians, Carver died about midnight. His breast was badly crushed, several ribs, one arm and one leg broken. Sheriff Disnong was notified and came here from Arcadia and placed the men under arrest, later releasing them under bonds. Mr. and Mrs. Carver came here about six months ago Tom Lake Butler.
The man who thus came to an untimely death was a son of Mr. S.M. Carver and well known in this county. The many friends of the family sympathize with them in their bereavement.
