∼"...Jacob Bowman, who was reared on the Shenandoah, just east of Woodstock. He married Miss Fravel, and they then acquired land of the old Fairfax Grant, this land having been continuously in the possession of the Bowmans ever since, and part of it is the home of B.B. Bowman. Jacob Bowman did the first work of improvement and cultivation as his part of the tract. The old log home in which he spent his life and died was destroyed by fire only a few years ago. He died in August, 1849 when about sixty-six years of age, and buried on the farm of his grandson, Burder B. This farm lies along the north branch of the Shenandoah River and comprises about two hundred and fifty acres. The children of Jacob Bowman and wife were: Miss Mary; Joseph; Isaac R. who died at Edinburg; Ana, who became the wife of Decatur Shipe and lived all her life in the Valley, dying at Harrisonburg; and Samuel, who spent his career on a portion of his father's estate."
