She was born in Huntington Nov. 27, 1916,, to George E. and Edith (Mow) Chenoweth. She married David Thompson in Fort Wayne on June 17, 1939; they were together for 45 years prior to his death Oct. 31, 1984.
Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Fort Wayne Southside High School and furthered her education at Indiana University with a degree in education. She taught for more than 20 years in the Bluffton-Harrison School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, an associate member of Tri Kappa Beta in Bluffton and a member of the St. Andrew By-The-Sea United Methodist Church on Hilton Head.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Judy Cotton of Bluffton, and Mary Jo (Don) Carlson of Hilton Head, S.C.; one sister Jane Goehring of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Bailey; and two sisters.
Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home, 308 W. Washington St., Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at the funeral home with the Rev. Cindy Osgood officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
