He was born in Wirt County on March 1, 1877, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fought, and had lived in the Newark vicinity his entire life. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Elizabeth and was a farmer by occupation.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jessie Weaver Fought; two sons, Harry C. Fought, Elizabeth, and Russell W. Fought, Parkersburg; three daughters, Mrs. Lulu Fultz, Akron, Mrs. Hazel Ellison of Elizabeth and Mrs. Muriel Strong, also of Elizabeth; one brother, Willie Fought of Newark; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons and two daughters.
Funeral services were conducted from the Elizabeth Church of Christ with
Evangelist Richard Pryor officiating. Burial was in the Fought Cemetery at Newark. The Pomroy-Mace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
