His obituary ran in the 7/19/1844 Daily Albany Argus Vol XXXII, issue 3286, p.3 "DIED At Coventry, Chenango County, on the 24th of May last, Roger Edgerton, in the 83rd year of his age. Mr. Edgerton was a revolutionary patriot. After serving three years in the Connecticut line, he was engaged in privateering and after being captured was one of those who suffered the horrors of the Jersey prison ship."
Kurt Riegel provided the following information found in the History of the Town of Coventry by Oliver P. Judd. "Roger Edgerton settled about four miles south of Coventry, NY, and was killed there by falling down the stairs. He came to Coventry as early as 1790, in which year a son of his died, this death being the first in the town. Another son, Hial, kept a store in Nineveh, NY."
