Ruby Lera Jones, 71, of Union died Sunday Feb. 3, 2002, at Pacific Care Center in Pacific. She was born Dec. 3, 1930, in Iberia to James and Bertha Ponder Earp. On Feb. 5, 1949, she was married in Iberia to Carl Jones who survives at the home.

Mrs. Jones received her schooling at Iberia. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Union. Mrs. Jones was employed by Bell Telephone Company for more than 27 years as a manager. She was a member of the Union First Christian Church and Naomi Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Union, where she was active and served in all the positions, including worthy matron. She also was active in the Temple Association.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a sister, Veta Whitaker of Blue Springs; five brothers, Claud Earp of Eldon, Lester Earp, Phillip Earp, George Earp and David Earp, all of Iberia; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oitmann Funeral Home in Union with the Rev. David Beaty officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery by the Brays Advent Christian Church near Iberia, with the Naomi Chapter of the OES conducting graveside services.
