The Honorable James Hodges III, was a prominent farmer, and a member of the Legislature of Maryland in the sessions of 1823 and 1824.
His parents were James Hodges II of Liberty Hall (1759–1815, m. 17/20/797 Kent Co, MD) and Mary Ann Claypoole (1772–?),
He married in 1821 in Liberty Hall, Kent Co, MD to Mary Hansen Ringgold, daughter of Dr. William Ringgold of White Hall, Baltimore Co, MD and Martha Hansen.

2. William Ringgold Hodges b. 7/27/1824 Kent Co, MD, m. on 4/19/1860 in Kent Co, MD to Matilda Phillips (1839–?), daughter of S. H. Phillips.
3. Mary Hodges b. 7/19/1826 Kent Co, MD, d. 7/9/1854, m. on 6/7/1853 in MD to Alfred Henry Fisher (1822-?), son of Dr. Jacob Fisher and Mary Ann Ringgold.
