Erik Michael Ordonez of Newark, calif., 21, died in a car accident June 26, 2004, on highway 84 in Newark. The accident also claimed the life of dear friend, driver and also a Newark resident, Derek Glorioso, 21, on the way back from an Oakland A's game.

Erik was born in Alameda County, calif., January 11, 1983 to Angela Ordonez. Angela, 52, died of heart failure and at the age of eight Erik went to live with Angela's sister Deborah Herrera in Union City. Herrera was assisted by Leon Twillie and (Uncle) Ishmael Herrera.

Deborah said she remembered when Erik first came to live with her, "Poor baby, my sister was a great cook, and he would always ask for his mom's food and I could not cook like her." Erik never forgot his mother's love and ironically would argue with his aunt about who would be buried next to her.

Erik grew up singing in the children's choir at Apostolic of the Faith in Jesus Christ in Hayward, influencing Erik's pleasure in music and causal singing.

Erik moved to Newark in middle school and attended Newark Junior High, where he established most of his life-long-friends, he was known for his memorable humor and comedic abilities.

In high school at Newark Memorial Erik played football; he was of rather large stature for a young man. He also enjoyed making films in his production class and was voted class clown in his 2001 yearbook.

Beloved best friend Jamil Rayburn, also a Newark resident, 24, said when he thinks about Erik "I remember just laughing hysterically."

Erik will be remembered as a young man who was never embarrassed of himself; voluntarily admitting to be a fan of Disney cartoons and songs.... He favored monster tacos from Jack in the box, was sensitive about his black eyes, a dedicated Raiders and A's fan and enjoyed the intimacy of friendships.

To those who knew him laughter became synonymous with his personality. He will be greatly missed by his aunt, father- figure Leon Twillie (Mr. T), Uncle Ishmael, cousins and all his friends that appreciated and depended on his friendship.

He will remain forever in the hearts of his loved ones.
