CIVIL WAR PENSION RECORDS STATE HE WAS IN THE 39TH, NOT 29TH AS STATED ON THE STONE.

Andrew J Smith was born in England in Jun 1844 and moved with his family to Wisconsin by 1853. Most of his siblings stayed in the Waushara, Dodge County area in Wisconsin, but for some reason, Andrew moved to Butte.

He married Etta (also Lauretta) Belle Russell in about 1866 after getting out of the Infantry. I have done some more looking and I found his Civil War records. The search was complicated by the fact that he was in the 39th Wisconsin Infantry, Co K, not the 29th Inf. (as stated on his stone) and the records state he is from another location that is 100 miles from where he lived (that may be a transcription ereor). But when I checked the Pension applications for Andrew J Smith, I could match him with Etta Belle and with the 39 Infantry, so this is the Lieut AJ Smith in Butte.

His father is Edward Smith, memorial # 45662707 and his mother is Anna (Hannah) Shrigley Smith, memorial #45662716. They are buried in Plainfield, Wisconsin.
