OBIT Dated July 14, 1960 Auburn Journal, Auburn, CA FUNERAL RITES ARE HELD FOR HENRY SMOTHERS Buried in Newcastle Cemetery, Smothers plot, Newcastle, California. Block #1, East 1/2 of lot #498.
"In Memory Of"...Henry Claude Smothers A Native of Arkansas and born on October 5, 1882.
Passed away in Penryn, California at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 10, 1960, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 5 days. Services at the Chapel of the Hills Auburn, California 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, 1960. Musical Selections by Mrs. Betty Jo Foster, Organist. The deceased has been a resident of the Penryn Area for 25 years. Interment Will Follow in the Newcastle District Cemetery Newcastle, California. Surviving are his wife, Kydie of Penryn; sons, Garnold of Merced, Austin of Salmon, Idaho, Mark H. of Chewelah, Wash., and Donald of Ketchikan, Alaska, and two daughters, Mrs. Beula Van Burien of Reno, and Mrs. Bernice Wilson of Ketchikan. (note here...they left out June Willis of Reno, Nevada, his youngest daughter). Eighteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive. He was active in the affairs of Calvary Baptist Church of Auburn. Rev. Jesse S. Matlock conducted the services. Gene Scott was the vocalist.
