Beaver - Surrounded by his loving family Acle Thompson Gillies, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and brother passed through the earthly veil on Monday, May 31, 2010, at the age of 91.

Acle was born on April 26, 1919 to George Burton Gillies and Ida Thompson Gillies, he was the ninth of eleven children with 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War 2, and saw action in the South Pacific. He was assigned to the 640th Tank Destroyer Battalion that was attached to the 40th Infantry Division. The 640th was part of the force that liberated the American Prisoners of War held at Bataan. He married Alice Marie Bohn on June 17, 1952 in the St. George Temple, they had two sons. She preceded him in death on November 24th, 2004.

Ace worked hard his whole life. He was a custodian for the U.S. Post Office and retired from postal service and then spent the last years working on his farm which he loved. Ace served in many church callings including Young Men's President, Scout Leader and on the Stake High Council. He could always be counted on to complete any assignment given. He had a great love for scouting and went on many camping trips and outdoor adventures. The high light of his scouting service was a cannoning trip on the Snake River at the age of 76. Many young men in the Beaver area will never forget the scouting experience they had with Ace, because of his example and leadership both of his sons were awarded the Eagle rank as well as three of his grandsons. He was awarded the Scouting's Silver Beaver award for his many years of service. Ace and his loving wife served a service mission for the LDS church. Ace was a kind, loving quiet gently man who possess a great love of the outdoors and working on his farm. He had a deep and abiding testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his two sons Blake Gillies of Beaver and Chad (Jelene) Gillies of Henderson NV. His grandchildren Cody and April Gillies of Columbus GA, Travis Gillies of Dallas TX, Crystal and (Dallen) Bradshaw, Colt Boone Gillies and Jessica Gillies of Beaver and Bonnie, Jake, Clancey and Samuel Gillies of Henderson NV, Great grandchildren Kolby and Evie Gillies of Dallas TX, and Rylan Gillies and Danzee Bradshaw of Beaver.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday June 4th, 2010 at the Beaver 1st and 2nd ward chapel. A viewing will be held Thursday June 3rd at the Southern Utah Mortuary in Beaver from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and then 1 hour prior to the funeral services at the Beaver 1st and 2nd ward chapel.

Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Beaver, UT all under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
