John A. Benedict, 79, of Waynesboro, Route 1, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Newton Baker VA Center, Martinsburg, W.Va. He had been in failing health for a number of years and was last admitted to the VA Center on Sunday. Mr. Benedict was born at Waynesboro, Feb. 14, 1895, son of the late George D. and Ellen M. Duffield Benedict. All his life was lived in the RD1 area. During World War I, Mr. Benedict served with the U.S. Army. All his ative life was spent in farming. He and Mrs. Benedict were married in December 1922 and had lived at the present residence since Mr. Benedict's retireent in 1951. He was a member of the Chambersburg barrack of the Veterans of World War I.
In addition to his widow, Agnes Martin Benedict, he is survived by a son George B. Benedict, Waynesboro, a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Anna Geesaman, Mrs. Lottie Deardorff, Miss Ada Benedict and Mrs. Eva Heefner, all of Waynesboro: Dr.Frank Benedict, Ocean City, N.J., Dr. Rush G. Benedict, Upper Darby; J. Glenn Benedict, Chambersburg, and Orville Benedict, Quincy.

The funeral be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Grove Funeral Home, in chargeof Chapain James A. Stanford. Burial with military honors will be in Mt.Zion Cemetery.
