Sylvia Iola Mace was born to William Alonzo Mace and Verna Lynn Fletcher. Her brothers and sisters are William Tosco, Harold Alonzo, Goldie Leona, Fay, Vernie Virgil, Purlie Myrle, Myrlie Donald, Vera Iona, Eva M. (Coughlan) and Earl Floyd. Her family moved to Idaho in her early age and settled in the farming community of Goshen near Shelley, Bingham County, Idaho, where she received most of her schooling.

Sylvia married Ernest David Pickett on December 20, 1919 at Idaho Falls, Bonneville County, Idaho. Their children are Marjorie Jean (Mullen), Helen Irene (Reed) and Rulon Dale. After Ernest and Sylvia were married, they operated a farm in the New Sweden/Riverdale area. Upon their retirement from farming, they began to spend their summers in Island Park, Fremont County, Idaho and winters in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona. Sylvia was a member of the Riverdale Social Club, Riverdale Grange, and V.F. Club.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 16, 1980 at the Trinity Methodist Church with Kate Tomara of the Shelley Methodist Church officiating. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home.
