Charleston IL, March 31, 1922: Benjamin F. Monroney charged with the murder of his wife Katie Monroney and his two children Harry and Ruth was insane when he murdered his wife and two children on Jan. 16, 1922.

The verdict means that Monroney will be taken to Chester prison where he will be incarcerated in the department for the criminal insane. One of the physicians who testified at the trial said the Monroney was suffering from a from of dementia paralytic, and that in his opinion his mental condition was such that he will never be any better.

Murder Victims Buried Here. Clark County (IL) Democrat, 25 Jan 1922.

The bodies of the Charleston murder victims, Mrs. Kate Monroney and two children, Ruth and Harry were brought to Marshall Thursday and interred here. A short service was held at the graves and a large concourse of friends ensembled to pay respect.
