June 28,1898, in Statham, Jackson County, Georgia, daughter of George Rene and Mary Alice Mahaffey Lanier, and the sister of Walter Stone Lanier, who married the subject's sister, Willie Gertrude Smith. Jack Smith died February 23,1983, in Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia, and Fannie died September 18,1977 in Greenesboro. Jack,Sr. and Polly had Children:
