Dorothy Edna Corbin Friend, 77, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at Pioneer Lodge Nursing Home, Coldwater, Kansas. Born January 9, 1924, in Major County near Sherman, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles Edward and Elizabeth Margaret (Deeg) Corbin, who was a homemaker, a teacher, and a rancher.
She was nearly a lifetime resident of Woods County, Oklahoma, moving there when she was twelve. She attended Cheyenne Valley Country School and various other country schools, and graduated from Waynoka High School in 1952. She received her lifetime teaching certificate from Northwestern State Teachers College in 1950. She attended First Christian Church, Coldwater, Ks, and was a of Centerview PTA. She also actively supported the local 4-H and FFA organizations.
On April[ril 8, 1950, she married Chester Willard Friend at Coldwater, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1974.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Joe Green.
Survivors include three sons: Willard Douglas Friend and wife Diana of Alva, Ok, John Wayne Friend and wife Marilyn of Freedom, OK, and Rex Dwayne Friend of Oklahoma City, Ok; three daughters: Edna Louise Green and husband Bill of Paris, Tx, Elma Elizabeth Mitchell and husband Ray of Lanagan, Mo, and Mary May Eubank and husband Danny of Protection, Ks; three brothers John Edward Corbin and wife Pat of Enid, Ok, Lloyd Lewis Corbin of Aline, Ok, and Robert Lee Corbin and wife Linda of Waynoka,Ok, one sister Beulah Maxine Lehl and husband Carl of Alva, Ok; fourteen grandchildren, Tina, Raymond and LeAnn Green, Nathan and Lindzy Friend, Steven and Emily Mitchell, Corey and Royce Friend, Sarah Beeley, Brian and Laura Friend and Robin and Gayla Eubank; three great-grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service is at 10:00 aam Saturday, August 18, 2001 at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, Ka, with Rev Chet Mendenhall presiding. Burial is at Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater, Ks.
