STEP-SON OF FORMER RESIDENT IS DROWNED

Jackie Goff, 8, Claimed in Cheyenne; Mr. and Mrs. "Buck" Hutchison Parents.

John Henry "Jackie" Goff, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George "Buck" Hutchison, was drowned in Kiwanis Beach lake at Cheyenne late last Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Hutchison is a former resident of Douglas and is well-known here. He is manager of the Russell Transportation Co. office in Cheyenne. His step-son had gone swimming with two playmates, Richard Gillen, 11, and Richard's brother, Alfred, 10.

Richard said he and Alfred made frantic efforts to reach the drowning boy with a stick when his cries for help attracted their attention, but could not pull him from the deep water at the end of the pier where the drowning occurred.

The boy's body was recovered by city firemen three quarters of an hour after he waded into the lake ahead of his friends, and rescue squads worked for 20 minutes to resuscitate him before Dr. Andrew Bunten pronounced him dead.

The funeral was held in Cheyenne Thursday morning.
