Bill Huggett and his first wife Muriel purchased the 3C Ranch in 1924. Bill met and married Muriel in 1922 at the San Marcos Hotel in Chandler where he owned the stables and operated a guide business. Muriel was wealthy and it is believed her money was used to purchase the ranch. She died following an operation in November 1929. It is said that Bill then went on a months long drinking binge and was "drying out" at Castle Hot Springs when he met Elna in 1930. They were married a few months later.
